Applies to: Krystal Marie Young (twice).

  2. Ryan joined the U.S. Army when he was 18 years old. He advanced quickly and by the time he was 21 he earned the rank of Sergeant. He also was a skilled Marksman and earned medals for that skill. Apparently he had already served in the capacity of instructor for marksmen.

Ryan was sent to Kuwait in 2002 as part of a police action to keep the oil wells safe from Iranian and Iraqian terrorists who were bent on taking over Kuwait by force. He returned from Kuwait the same year and was deployed to Iraq in September of 2003 as part of Operation Enduring Freedom that was initiated by president George W. Bush. President Bush used underhanded and untruthful methods to trick the U.S. Congress into authorizing the war in Iraq. He claimed to have solid evidence that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and that the dictator Suddam Hussein was a big threat to the U.S.

Hussein was hunted down and put on trial and hanged within two years of the beginning of the war.
Ryan's was part of what is known as the Big Red One. His company was known by the name Iron Rangers. He was to "A" Company 1st Battalion 16th Infantry Regiment 1st Infantry Division and were installed near the Iraq International Airport.

On the morning of November 8, 2003 Ryan and two other sergeants volunteered for a mission to find IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) and clear them from the road so troops could make their way to Fallujah about 20 miles away. Fallujah was a stronghold of fanatical religious groups and was included in the area known as the Sunni Triangle. That was considered at the time to be one of the deadliest pieces of real estate in the world.

The lit out in a Bradley Armored Personnel Carrier and it wasn't long before they found one of the IEDs they were looking for. Unfortunately, they found it because it was exploded under their vehicle. The two friends were killed immediately. Ryan's body was dragged out by a soldier from nearby who witnessed the attack. Ryan's spine was nearly severed, he had holes in his lungs, his right eye was shot out, and his right hand was reduced to bone due to the extreme temperatures of the fire that resulted from the explosion.

Ryan was shipped to the Army hospital in Germany and without gaining consciousness, he was operated on to gain stability and transferred to Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington D.C. by a medical team.

Ryan was operated on several times after he arrived. He actually gained consciousness for a short time and was able to talk to his wife Sarah. He asked her not to leave him there.
Ryan died on December 2, 2003.

True to her word, Sarah did not leave him but waited for the flight home with the casket . She flew first class thanks to the airline and Ryan's casket was in the cargo hold. Finally he arrived back in the Southern California that he loved. He was buried in the Riverside Memorial Cemetery.
    Applies to: Ryan Clent Young.

  17. Willis Young's father's name was John.
When Cora Edna (Big Mama) was about 13 or 14 Willis Young wrote to her mother and asked for her hand in marriage.
Apparently Big Mama was not consulted on this. But her mother gave her away to Willis.
Facing Big Mama's house, if you look to the left about a hundred yards, there was a small house that eventually came to be housing for a black family who worked for Mr. Auvil. Willis and Big Mama lived in that house. She had her first child by Willis when she was only 17 years old by one month. Which means she spent the bulk of her sixteenth year pregnant. They named him Willis Delane Young.
Then a couple of years later she had her second child by Willis and named him Douglas Bernard Young.
Around this time, Willis grew tired of her mother being what he saw as always up in his business. So he told his young bride he did not want to stay there anymore. If she wanted to stay with him, she'd have to pack her bags and follow him. If not, then it was wrap for that marriage. She obviously wanted to stay around home so she let him go.
She never loved him to begin with since it was an arranged marriage. She divorced him and married Alan Ramsey Brown.

Willis moved not far from Converse to a town called Manning in the same parish...Sabine.
It is said that he married one of the Hubier's nieces. He had several children most of whom stayed around Manning. This other branch of the Youngs is larger than the first that he had begun to create with Cora Edna.
    Applies to: Willis Napoleon Young.

  30. From all evidence available, Napoleon B Young died fighting in the civil war. Born in 1940, he was married at 16 and was still 16 years old when his only child - Willis Napoleon Young was born 1857. It appears that he joined the 28th Regiment, Louisiana Infantry in 1961 with the rank of Private and remained in that rank until he was killed in 1863 at the age of 23. Other than the record of his joining the military and their record of his death, he seems to have simply slid off the face of the Earth. Even less information is available on his wife Alabama Stacy who also was born in 1840. Other than a record of her birth and apparent marriage to Napoleon, records don't exist.

The following is information archived by the U.S. government and military records:
